    Everett E. Vokes, MD, is the John E. Ultmann Professor, Chair of Department of Medicine, and Physician in Chief at the University of Chicago Medicine. He previously served for 11 years as the Chief of the University of Chicago’s nationally prominent Section of Hematology/Oncology. He is an accomplished clinical and translational investigator who has brought together clinical and scientific multimodality teams to address complex solid tumors leading to improved treatment outcomes. He is known for his work in the biology and treatment of lung and head and neck cancer and the interaction of chemotherapy and radiation. His work on concomitant chemoradiation has contributed to increased cure rates and spared many patients from radical surgery. He also established the intellectual and clinical basis of national trials investigating concomitant chemoradiotherapy and other approaches to curative intent multispecialty care. He is an elected member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation and American Association of Professors. He has earned recognition on numerous "best doctor" lists and as one of the first awardees of American Society of Clinical Oncology s Translational Research Professorship. In 2014 he was named as a Giant of Cancer Care by OncLive. He served as Principal Investigator of the University of Chicago’s NCI funded Phase II network from 1994-2009 (now Co-PI) and has been influential in national settings within Cancer and Leukemia Group B (now Alliance) where he chaired the Respiratory Committee from 2004-2017. He has served on numerous advisory committees and review panels and has authored or co-authored more than 450 papers and 80 book chapters. His innovative approach to cancer care has been inspiring to young trainees interested in understanding how research can make a difference for patients and lead to positive effect on patient outcomes.
